Luis G Garcia, "El Guero"
Luis G Garcia went to be with Our Lord on Thursday, February 23, 2017 at the age of 94. He was born and raised in Brownsville, Texas.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife Basilia, his mother Francisca Garza, a sister Florentina Rodriguez and a brother Ernesto Garcia.
Left to cherish his memory are his children: Petra Cano (Ruben), Lydia Garcia, Alicia Schaefer (Gene), Luis Garcia Jr. (Frances), Maria Leticia Garcia, Ricardo E. Garcia, Laura Robinson and his sister: Elida Jasso. also 10 Grandchildren, several great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He served in the Civilian Conservation Corp in the Sagaache, Colorado area. He served in the U. S. Army during WWII, as a Private First Class, Company I, 349th Infantry. He fought in North Africia and Italy. He received the Purple Heart, EAME Theatre Ribbon 1, Bronze Battle Star, American Theatre Ribbon and the Good Conduct Ribbon.
He managed the Mexico and Iris Theatres for 30 years, then he worked at PUB for couple of years before retiring. He was mostly known as El Guero, he loved fishing and gardening, he will be greatly missed by his family and all those lives he touched.
The family would like to thank Greater Valley Hospice and the nursing staff at Retama Manor Nursing center in Harlingen. Our father wanted no services, he always said come see me when I'm alive not dead. He will live forever in our hearts.
