Maria Elisa Cantu, 93, entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, August 22, 2018. She was born on September 3, 1924 in Cruillas, Tamaulipas. She resided in Brownsville for 49 years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Augusto Cantu Garza and daughter Blanca Hilda C. Aleman.
She is survived by her 6 children: Augusto C. Cantu Jr. (Lydia Cantu), Maria Elva Cantu, Aminda C. Martinez (Jose Luis Martinez Jr.), Efren Cantu, Efrain Cantu (Maria de la Cruz Cantu), and Javier Cantu. She had 17 grandchildren, 31 great-greatchildren, and 5 great-great grandchildren.
Maria Elisa Cantu was a very talented and gifted seamstress her whole life. She made an infinite amount of dresses, from the basic dress, to wedding dresses. She wasn't just a dressmaker, she was devoted mother, grandmother, and friend. She was a vendor of the 77 Flea Market for more than 20 years. She shared with everyone her great sense of humor with all her jokes, and had an amazing laugh. She had the best memory as well. She would remember stories to the smallest details and was always willing to share a funny memory with those around her. Most knew her as Lichita or Dona Licha. She will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she impacted and loved her so.
Visitation will be Friday, August 24, 2018 beginning at 10 a.m., until 9 p.m., with an evening service to begin at 7 p.m., at Trevino Funeral Home(Southmost). Mass of Resurrection will be held at 9:30a.m., Saturday, August 25, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church with burial to follow at Buena Vista Burial Park.
